SMART RETURNS TO BULLDOGS IN 2020

08 October 2019
The Onka-Valley Football Club is excited to announce the signing of former local junior and ex League Norwood Premiership Player Edward (Eds) Smart.
Smart who only weeks ago played his 100th League Game for the Norwood Football Club has decided the time was right to return home and join his friends and family around his childhood Bulldog home.
The football pathway of Smart has seen him successfully progress through College football at Sacred Heart College into the underage ranks at Norwood and then on to a distinguished League Career culminating in 100 League Games.
Eds was excited to be returning to the Doggies, “It’s very exciting to come back to where it all began. I have been very fortunate to enjoy eight years playing senior footy at Norwood with some of my best mates, who also grew up playing junior footy at Onkas. To come back and to play with these guys again is pretty incredible!
The team had a super successful year which I followed closely. The inclusion of Joffa (Ben Jefferies) and Websy (Tim Webber) was obviously beneficial, but I think the younger lads had a huge contribution to the way the team played this year. Hopefully the inclusion of Johnny Greenslade and myself can help further contribute to next year’s result.
I can’t wait for next season to come around and to start contributing to the Onkas community on and off the field.” added Smart
The Onka Valley Football Club is also very excited about the return of Eds. Eds being the younger brother of past Onkas players Nick & James Smart.
“As a club we are all so proud of Ed’s and his career at SANFL level, we are also very excited about the fact he is highly motivated and passionate about his home club. We really do welcome him and his partner Meg back to Onkas.” said Onka Valley Football Club President Andrew Adcock.
Onkas Senior Coach Paul Tanner was equally enthusiastic, “I have watched Eds career down at Norwood along with the other Onkas Boys and they have all done themselves so proud, and it’s now wonderful to have him back now joining them here at home.
Ed’s will play such an important role for our club both on and off the field with his hard work ethic and professionalism that has seen him play 100 League Games of SANFL football being invaluable for our young players. It’s going to be a pleasure to coach him, and I cannot wait to get this group together as we look to go one better in 2020”.
On behalf of all at the club we welcome Eds and Meg to the club and look forward to 2020.
Smart is another positive signing for the club after the recent announcement of former Sturt premiership player Johnny Greenslade also joining the Dogs.
